The 6 Most Wearable Nail Trends for Spring/Summer 2019

The 6 Most Wearable Nail Trends for Spring/Summer 2019

I thought we’d end off this month of beauty content with nails. I don’t talk much about, or even really do my nails at all, but sometimes a trend or design sparks something inside me and I am inclined to get a manicure. Before the mani I got this week, I hadn’t worn polish on my finger nails in probably upwards of 6 months. However, the Olive & June nails I mention in this post were too cute not to be inspired by.

What’s great about nail trends, at this point, is that you can achieve them in many different ways. More and more brands are coming out with tools to make them easier to do from the comfort of your own home - stickers, stamps, etc. Some trends from the Spring/Summer 2019 runways are a bit out there to say the least.. Obviously to each their own, but if you’re like me and you like something a bit more classic and wearable, read on for my fave Spring/Summer nail trends for the year.

NUDE NAILS + NAIL ART

Olive & June

This one is my fave. I la-la-love these cute nail stickers from Olive & June. They give you a super cute, super elevated mani with really minimal effort. They’ve got a bunch of other designs to choose from, but flower patterns and shapes on top of a classic nude base is huge for the warmer months. Maybe I’m delusional, but I believe that having flowers on my nails will make the warmer weather come faster 🤷

LINE WORK/GEOMETRIC

This design was seen all over the place for Spring/Summer this year. Some variations were more intricate, some a bit more simple. No matter your interpretation, the line work/geometric trend is a step up from the one above. A bit edgier, and super easy to create, this trend is made up of straight lines, tons of 90° angles, and angular shapes like triangles and squares.

RAINBOW PASTEL

This one is perfect if you’re too indecisive to choose just one colour on your nails. A pastel version of the rainbow allows you to pick your fave colours and wear all of them at once, while remaining on trend for spring. Because who doesn’t love a good pastel mani for May? Another variation I saw of this was a gradient of colours - each nail a different shade of one original colour.

FRAMED

The framed nail trend is a cool way of upgrading a basic french mani. It takes the colour from the edges of the nail and brings it all the way down to meet at the cuticle. I like this one because I can choose two different colours that I love and wear them at the same time, while still maintaining consistency from nail to nail. It’s a cool trend that has had a few iterations in the past, but continues to be just unique enough to take your regular polish up a notch.

METALLIC/CHROME

I mean, could this be more wearable? Metallics are basically jewelry that you can wear on your nails. They come in tons of colours at this point, and clearly stand the test of time because IMO they never go out of style. This Spring/Summer, try a lighter option like a rose gold or silver metallic polish to pair perfectly with your festival ready jewelry. This trend is probably the easiest to recreate at home because all it requires is one perfectly pearlescent polish like OPI’s Made It to the Seventh Hill! or Essie’s No Place like Chrome.

NEGATIVE SPACE

As a graphic designer and lover of all things #aesthetic, the negative space trend is per-fec-tion. I love negative space - on websites, on billboards and advertisements, and even on nails. If there was a trend that was easier than the metallics to do at home, it’s this one. All you need is a great base coat, your fave colour, and some fun lines or designs. This works with dark colours, light pastels, whatever you like best. Try it with polka dots, maybe some cute hearts, just have fun with it.
