3 Ways to Empower Women

3 Ways to Empower Women

Today, March 8th, marks the annual International Women’s Day. It’s a global day to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women anywhere and everywhere. We’ve come so far that having an entire day to be proud of our progress doesn’t seem enough. In my opinion, we should be empowering the women in our lives to be better, smarter, stronger and reach further, higher, and bigger 365 days out of the year. Because fostering a community of collaborators rather competitors is a much more positive community as a whole. So here are 3 ways that you can empower the women in your life to continue making waves and thinking big:

1. FIND SIMILARITIES, NOT DIFFERENCES

As women, we spend a lot of time comparing ourselves to other women. This can end up becoming pretty detrimental to our mental health and self-image because more often than not, the comparisons are negative. ‘She’s got such a great body, I wish I looked like that’, or ‘I can’t believe how established her career is’, you get the point. But what if, instead of finding differences in ourselves, we found similarities instead? What if instead of thinking ‘she’s prettier than me’ or ‘she’s smarter than me’, we think ‘we’re both beautiful women with so much to give’ or ‘we’ve both got strong voices that deserve to be heard’? Think about how much more positive the global community of women would be! So next time you’re looking at someone and comparing yourself to them, remember what things you’ve got in common.

2. WORK TOGETHER

When women get together, we’ve got the power to do great things. We’ve got creative ideas, insightful opinions and, to me, tend to be greater together than apart! My fellow female content creators are the people who inspire me the most and when I work with them I feel so much more motivated than I do when I’m alone. S/O to Jess Lam and Anna Lee for forcing me to think outside the box, and challenge myself when it comes to creating content! I believe that collaboration is much healthier than competition. Why fight each other to get to the top when there is room enough for everyone?

3. MAKE YOUR APPRECIATION KNOWN

Maybe it’s just me (because my love language is words of affirmation), but hearing that you’re valued and loved makes you feel pretty good! One of the best ways to let the women in your life know you care for and appreciate them is by saying so. Take a moment today, tomorrow, even a week or a month from now to let her know she’s important to you. It could be your mom, your girlfriend, your best friend, a boss or co-worker; whoever she is, she’s probably pretty awesome! You could write them a note, comment on her social media, or just say it right to her face, but telling her how you feel is a great way to reassure that she’s doing a kick-ass job at being a woman. Because at the end of the day, we’re all just trying our best!!

How do you intend to celebrate International Women’s Day? Who is a special woman in your life that you want to appreciate today? Share your loved ones with me in the comments below. And Happy International Women’s Day to all the boss babes out there!
